Torrential rain causes heavy flooding in Glasgow

Torrential rain has caused flooding and travel disruption in the west of Scotland.showed abandoned cars and queues of traffic on Glasgow's Great Western Road on Wednesday.

The heavy downpours also led to the cancellation of the opening night of the GlasGlow event at the Botanic Gardens. Disruption on the rail network on Thursday meant passengers were urged to check their journey before travelling.Heavy rain caused flooding on Glasgow's Great Western Roadservices between Edinburgh and Glasgow are among those affectedA Met Office amber weather warning for rain has been in place overnight in part of the south of Scotland, with forecasters predicting about 100mm of rain over 18 hours in some parts.

Motorists in Dumfries and Galloway have been warned to be aware of standing water on major and minor roads throughout the region.Most are in Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders but there are also warnings in place for the River Almond at Cramond and Pollok Country Park.
