Tory leadership race: Five key moments from debate

Conservative Party leadership contest

Michael Gove, Jeremy Hunt, Sajid Javid, Boris Johnson and Rory Stewart were grilled by members of the public in a live televised debate on BBC One, hosted by Emily Maitlis. Each of the candidates had made it through to the next stage of the Conservative Party leadership race earlier in the evening - and face a further vote on Wednesday.Media playback is unsupported on your deviceWhen Bristol imam Abdullah asked the MPs about the Islamophobic rhetoric faced by members of his community, and whether they agreed words had consequences, each sought to answer his question as best as they could.

When it was Mr Javid's turn, he decided to take it one step further - asking all the candidates to agree, there and then, to commit to an independent investigation into Islamophobia in the Conservative Party. "Do you all agree guys?" he asked, turning to his rivals in turn."They all agree? Excellent. That's great we all agree on that."

As the media continue to ridicule these worthy and deserving candidates for the Tory leadership they focus on the most important issue. Rightly, Rory removing his tie, disqualifies him from high office. And by the way, why didn’t they notice that Boris was wearing odd socks?

What I took away was... No 1 - Oh no! That's on..! No 2 - Netflix has Jessica Jones series 3 No 3 - Freeview best of Rude Tube is on No 4 - Glass of milk and biscuits No 5 - Ooo! Weather's on BBC News

I liked the part when there were credits

Why is this on at all since next PM decided by tiny minority? If anything, why not profile of each of these people and a factual apraisal of incompetence, lies, hypocrisy, and individual and collective role in damaging UK . You'll have Jonson's dad on next. Oh wait- you did.

Rory opens jacket ... answers question .... Rory loosens belt .... answers question .... Rory takes of tie in theatrical manner and answers question... IS THIS HOW IT ENDS

Eton and Oxford, Eton and Oxford, Oxford, Oxford, Exeter; any guesses why all their answers In the debate were similar....

Your favourite of the 4 who got the most votes in the 2nd ballot?

Unless someone tells me that the key moment was when someone shouted 'Release the Tiger' followed by a shot of the candidates scattering as an orange blur races towards them then I'm not interested.

🤡🤡

Pointless

Meanwhile tonight electrucity was in the air!

1) Theresa May really is the best the Conservatives have to offer 2) These 5 explain why the Conservatives are an utter failure in government 3) Britain was correct in 1997 4) The libdems have a lot to answer for 5) Britain needs a General Election, pronto

It's like watcing a team holding the ball at the corner flag in the 93rd min while 1 nil down 😂😂

There were no key moments, just lies that weren't exposed by the host.... Hopeless

Dear BBC. Emily Maitlis is not very good at her job. Thought I’d mention this as I’m one of the many people who pay her wages- for now at least.
