Female dance acts largely ignored by UK radio, study says

DJ D-Lish talks about the prejudice she's experienced as a female DJ in a male-dominated field

She says she was "disappointed and saddened" by the findings, which looked at female and non-binary representation across the club scene, from the board room to the charts. There is some room for optimism - the report's authors say - with the report showing that the proportion of female and non-binary acts on UK festival bills has doubled since 2018, from 14% to 28%."You'll have an all-male line-up and then you'll have one woman," says DJ Nia Archives in the report. "It's ridiculous to be honest with you. But you know, it's quite a boys' club.

"If you've got an all-white male line-up, that's gonna attract a lot of white males," says rising London producer TSHA.

Errr dance acts on radio? Make or female or mixed, I bet they all go down well with the listeners at home… NOT

Also by me. Male dance acts equally ignored.

dance? Radio? Lol

And…?

'Decent acts largely ignored by UK radio, study says' Corrected that for you. That's why the record industry can't try about Napsters, or The Pirate Bay... because they're releasing a tonne of unlistenable SHIT! Let the music industry die, and their cocaine habit too.

What about mime artists?

Ffs. Outcomes will never be equalised unless we become increasingly authoritarian and lose freedoms. As long as there is no discrimination then what does it matter. It's ideological and obsessional.

Perhaps they are not good enough.

What do you mean by 'female', BBC?

Er......cant see dance on the radio bro. Just saying 😌

But it can still be appreciated by the blind?

Flaunting your bits with crap music. comes over as crap music. Slight flaw in the victim angle; maybe need music folk want to listen to. Like naked sicky; would be nil points on the radio. ooo R baby isn't music; at a guess.

Interesting that most comments hear have nothing to do with issues raised. Perhaps listen to the interview on Radio 4 from this morning. It was interesting and informative.

Dancing programmes on radio went out with victor sylvester and Archie Andrews

Who writes this 💩

Fred Astaire is often on the wireless usually the Light programme on Longwave 200 KC/s 1500M, if you are prepared for the odd bobby soxer announcer to talk over the start of the audible festivity.

Think salt n Pepa retired didn't they? Are Mel and Kim still about? Might want to do a bit of historic research BBC in relation to bands, groups and songs prior to 2021!!

Who?

Racism!

Mime artists get a rough deal when it comes to radio also

Sod off

I've never seen any dance acts on the radio. Have I missed much?

Difficult to show dance acts on the radio, I suppose.

What a load of bollocks

Nonsense. I freestyle some shapes every time I hear Fiddler's Dram on the wireless.

Probably because they all sound the same (to my 50 year old ears)

Perhaps they’re not very good 🤔

Typical “elite media” article here👍

That's funny they are not ignored down the boozer.

It would be a bit hard to do dance on radio WTF are the BBC on about it must be a slow day for real news 😳

Obviously this saddens me beyond my ability, and inclination, to say.

Is it April 1st, Do male dance acts work better on radio?

In other news White R&B/Rap artists ignored by the MOBO awards..

A dance act on the radio 🤔

Who cares, really..? Is this news?
