A father undergoing chemotherapy for brain cancer completes a 200-mile bike ride to watch the Rugby World Cup final in Paris. Robert Seaward, who has been given a terminal diagnosis, said he wanted to extend his time with his daughter.

A father undergoing chemotherapy for brain cancer said he has “shown people what can be done” after he completed a 200-mile bike ride to Paris to watch the Rugby World Cup final.

He had the “spontaneous” idea for the cycle as he reflected on his journey with oligodendroglioma, a type of brain tumour, after watching the Springboks defeat England in a dramatic 16-15 semi-final last week. “My little girl was only five at the time and I thought, I couldn’t leave her that young, so anything I could do to extend those times, I would do.”

He started the cycle at around 9am on Thursday morning in Marlow where he rode around 100 miles to Newhaven, in East Sussex, before catching a ferry to Dieppe, in Normandy, France.
