Five-year-old Yusuf Mahmud Nazir died in Sheffield's Children Hospital
He said he was told the children's ward had "not got the doctors" and "not got the beds". Yusuf died on Monday.Zaheer Ahmed said Yusuf fell ill with a sore throat on 13 November. The following day he went to his GP and was prescribed antibiotics. After waiting for hours Yusuf was seen by a doctor who, according to Mr Ahmed, told him that the child had "the worse case of tonsillitis he had ever seen".
Two days later, Yusuf was unable to speak, eat or drink so was taken by ambulance to Sheffield Children's Hospital. "If he had got IV antibiotics, he would have been here. He would have be playing with us now, if he got that when I begged them." Dr Richard Jenkins, chief executive of The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, offered his "sincere condolences to Yusuf's family".
"We, like other district general hospitals in the South Yorkshire region, do not provide paediatric intensive care beds.
TRAGIC!!!🥺
The nurse told to the family of dying child ' I can't just pull a bed out of the air'. She/he could have come up with better response. Now nurses went to strike seeking people's sympathy? Many people foolishly support them. But Ask thoes who have been the victim of their cruelty
Conservatives bring delays. Delays bring deaths. Conservatives cause deaths.
But I trust the hospital has a diversity manager and plenty of staff on TikTok duty
Less than 20 minutes drive from an renown children’s hospital in Sheffield that has a specific A&E just for children. If it was that bad you would have gone there.
Both are tragic, probably avoidable deaths, but we don't know if Yusuf would have survived with action, but we do know Awaab would have. So, why did you choose to headline Yusuf's case and not Awaab's, BBC?
British medical care is a disgrace TheBMA Hospitals don't discharge, don't take the time to recruit to vacancies, don't diagnose or treat at 1st opportunity, only when it's way past urgent, or not at all. Most dead family members would be alive if they had got ill elsewhere.
Yes very sad , let's not forget as well young white girls suffering in Rotherham .
NHS neglect has killed thousands in the last 3 years. We all know why.
This is the result of cut backs to finance private companies, if this is what you want then carry on voting conservative If you want better Choose a better government Choose a political party who will invest in our NHS and stop the cut backs in funding and salaries Your choice!
Children’s city of culture though, Rotherham. What a joke
SteveBarclay your silence and apathy when the NHS is so broken and failing so many families is sickening
Socialized medicine is so awesome
