Some fellow F1 drivers are hoping Vettel stays on as a GPDA director even after his retirement from the sport.

"Maybe we'll see if he wants to continue," said"But, yeah, Seb is a guy that a lot of the time just says it as it is and I don't mean too… that's not in aggressive way, he's just very honest and direct.

Daniel Ricciardo, McLaren, Alex Albon, Williams Racing, Esteban Ocon, Alpine F1 Team, Kevin Magnussen, Haas F1 Team, Valtteri Bottas, Alfa Romeo F1 Team,"And on topics like safety then we don't need to beat around the bush. So, I think he's character is really good for that position. "We'll see, it's obviously all very new news for us. I guess we'll discuss it internally and have a think who's a good replacement. But, yeah, he was great for us."

Alfa Romeo's Bottas said:"I feel like its quite hard to replace Seb in that kind of role because [of] the way he is – he's really straightforward and direct and doesn't go around things, just says things as they are and questions many things loudly.

Vettel cites family as core reason behind F1 retirement decisionSebastian Vettel says his Formula 1 retirement was prompted by feeling he could no longer give it the commitment needed alongside his desire to spend more time with his family. With the gruesome calendar we’ve had the past couple years, this is completely understandable. So much time spent away from family is never fun. Good call. It has been pretty clear that he's environmental and social views are becoming a larger part of his life, and somewhat incompatible with the principles of F1. Looking forward seeing him on electric series (Rallycross?) Good choice from him
