Sebastian Vettel has explained that he could no longer give the kind of commitment needed in F1 amid a desire to spend more time with family.

at the end of the year.

“Next to racing I have grown a family and I love being around them,” he said. “I have grown other interests outside of F1. “Committing to my passion the way I did, and the way I thought was right, does no longer go side-by-side with my wish to be a great father and husband. “My goals have shifted from winning races and fighting for championships to seeing my children grow, passing on my values: helping them up when they fall, listening to them when they need me, not having to say goodbye and most importantly being able to learn from them and let them inspire me.

Let's be honest now, Seb. It has nothing to do with Family and everything to do with that incompetent moron that is your teammate. He should be the one retiring from the sport forever. What has Stroll got to show for the time he has been in the sport? Nothing! Makes no sense!

Good choice from him

Good call. It has been pretty clear that he's environmental and social views are becoming a larger part of his life, and somewhat incompatible with the principles of F1. Looking forward seeing him on electric series (Rallycross?)

With the gruesome calendar we’ve had the past couple years, this is completely understandable. So much time spent away from family is never fun.

The 2018 Vettel rut Leclerc must avoid in F1 2022's title fightOPINION: With a French Grand Prix crash that hampers Ferrari's Formula 1 title credentials even further, Charles Leclerc revived uncomfortable memories for the Scuderia of Sebastian Vettel's 2018 Hockenheim blunder. Leclerc's immediate reaction was markedly different to the German's, and that must continue to be the case going forward if he is to have any chance of toppling Max Verstappen in 2022

Why Vettel's retirement is a huge loss for F1 on and off-trackOPINION: Sebastian Vettel will step away from Formula 1 at season's end. But the reaction to his impending departure was tinged with more sorrow than that typically afforded to a multiple world champion signalling the end of an era, as the Aston Martin driver has a perspective and willingness to speak up on issues beyond grand prix racing that few of his contemporaries do LukeSmithF1 He went from being a competitor who did not give a millimeter to his teammate to a crazy environmentalist, he went from asking for the return of the v10s to retiring through the small door, another Hamilton, if Hamilton will end up the same LukeSmithF1 Personally I don't think Vettel's retirement is sad but rather its the right thing to do infact he should have retired earlier to avoid tainting his legacy. Yes, what is sad is in life is a champion sticking around in the midfield fighting for the lower points like he is a nobody LukeSmithF1 Narrator: Vettel would not be missed at all.
