End of the Wimbledon road for gutsy Christopher Eubanks WIMBLEDON

The popular 27-year-old lit up the jam-packed Wimbledon No.1 Court on Wednesday afternoon, but wilted in the final set to suffer a 6-4 1-6 4-6 7-6 6-1 defeat to the plucky no.3 seed Daniil MedvedevCHRISTOPHER EUBANKS, the giant American ace, was unable to extend his unbeaten grass court run to 10 matches, with former world no.1 Daniil Medvedev dashing his dreams.

Yet in his latest serve-dominated captivating clash, which was littered by short and furious rallies, the world no.43 ran out of steam. He missed out on becoming the first Wimbledon men’s African-American semi-finalist since Mal Washington, who finished runner-up in 1996. The fourth set was dominated at times by Eubanks, courtesy of his terrifying serve and thunderous forehand drives. Ferocious, short and sharp rallies delighted the fans in an enthralling encounter.

But Eubanks was visibly tiring, which was understandable after playing in his third successive week on grass. He dropped his serve twice to hand Medvedev a huge 3-0 advantage in the decisive set. He faced just one match point against him serving at 5-1, only sent the ball long to end his remarkable run.
