The template for the modern manager tends to be a low-ego, compassionate boss who gives people autonomy. Someone didn’t get the memo

within days of completing the acquisition above board? And it raises questions of strategy: can Twitter make money by moving from a business model based on advertising to one based on subscription? But it is also an extremely public test of a particular style of management. In the way he thinks about work, decision-making and the role of theHis attitude to employees is an obvious example of his counter-cultural approach. For a futurist, Mr Musk is a very old-fashioned boss.

His critics have to accept that the my-way-or-the-highway approach has worked before. At his other firms, like Tesla and SpaceX, Mr Musk may not have offered empathy but has provided a planet-sized sense of purpose, from popularising electric vehicles to colonising Mars. Whether this can work for him at Twitter is less clear. His vision for the product as a “digital town square” where free speech flourishes is a typically grand one.

The authors of the paper did discover a wide range of approaches, with some managers going on gut instinct and others using very formalised processes. But the researchers found that bosses who use more structured processes tend to lead bigger and faster-growing firms . They also tend to make decisions more slowly. Mr Musk and his acolytes are in a different camp: fast, informal and aggressive. Reports are already surfacing of fired Twitter workers being asked to come back.

One thing professors should stress: there is no such thing as 'boiler plate' strategies, i.e. context matters! My favorite definition of strategy is: 'Strategy is a sequence of decisions that lead towards the achievement of business objectives' Popularity does'nt feature anywhere

pls shut up with the cult of musk, sophisticated audiences dont care, the Economist isnt meant to cater to fanboys

I thinks he's going to succeed. Idont see a reason to doughty him. He has the track record.

Is Musk paying you now? What the hell has happened to your once top notch journalism? You used to provide thoughtful cutting edge articles, & now you seem to be kowtowing to billionaires & dictators! Very disappointing that you traffic in misinformation.

Does this article mention what's going on at Tesla at all?

Change “if” to “when”

'If'.

Twitter is falling apart no longer providing the purpose it served after musk’s changes so…this article feels like wishful thinking.

Twitter does not depend on cookie magic. People of an open inner circle could pay a cent per tweet. This step implies verification. Marketing and peers could then address the inner circle. (The Addams Family, 1964) Twitter TwitterFiles elonmusk

Entry-level employees making six figures salaries.

Unfortunately, Elon Musk of today is more like the Pillow Guy, Rudy Giuliani or even Donald Trump than, for example, groundbreaking inventors such as Tesla or Edison. Those odd rumors about the poor wiring of his own brain implants installed in his head might be true !!!🥸!!!

the economist eat dick

I believe that the entire school system should be updated, not just the MBA program. We should start teaching economics and philosophy in elementary school, economy and critical thinking would change the kids lives. Revelation of 2022 elonmusk BIG SECRET; 🤫”he uses his head.”

The only student I knew who got rich from college was one who used his student aid to invest in real estate.

They are already breaking even next year, after years of losing money. MBA people are good for companies where they don't need innovation, just do the same thing every year.

Sure, a sample set of 1 should change the paradigm. Who writes this garbage?

Stop carrying water for this narcissist

You are faced with two choices to fix your company, call in elonmusk or McKinsey

'For a futurist, Musk is a very old-fashioned boss. He doesn’t like remote work ... He sent an email to employees at Tesla demanding that they come to the office for at least 40 hours a week. Anyone who thought this was antiquated could “pretend to work somewhere else.'

If.

自由派的懦弱呼吁

lol

Lol

all founders who made it big were not even MBAs

But he won’t.

If he succeeds then all MBA schools should just shut down

He thinks about work like a CEO ought to: if you fire enough people, you don’t have to pay as much.

Richest person on the planet… needs critique from some no one journalist is laughable

zzzzzzzz

There's no thinking in Elon's management, just pride and ego.

Templating management? Monolithic management.

What a lame perspective when there’s so much more to say in this topic.

Way to non-sequitur! The Economist cristsakes has to accept that readers have been able to recognize FUD and fallacies. Whether this will be effective for them in this tweet is a Magic 8-ball hot-take away... follow the link to feed the ad revenue. Do better!

Has it worked though? None of his ventures is actually profitable and only have huge valuations because of his ability to spin a vision.

The my way or the Highway approach works, but “my way” has to be right. Ballmer’s “Be bold, but be right” has 2 parts for a reason.

People’s thinking can’t be engineered like a rocket. That’s the difference between Twitter and SpaceX/Tesla.

Yes, but it exposed him as a hypocrite and a liar, what with all the free speech bullshit talk. And that hypocrisy should be used by his enemies to ruin his little game of trying to become king of the Midwestern inbreds.

🤔succeed, how? Succeeding in breaking stuff, yes.

Just because one person can do it doesn't mean that everyone will succeed in copying him. But I agree it might be good for the business school business.

'The template for the modern manager tends to be a low-ego, compassionate boss who gives people autonomy. Someone didn’t get the memo.'

Visibly TE is now a left wing magazine defending left wing bias

the current situation 🙃

..and dead fish flows with the stream. Right?

What the fuck is this garbage article

Prediction: the MBA will not need an update.

What’s more valuable? An MBA or millions of inherited South African emerald mine dollars? 🤔

yup

What is the African migrant Musk doing?

FYI - there is no “template”.

we need help. the censorship in our country was used by the judiciary to cover up fraud in the elections! we want democracy in the country, we do not accept communism! squid should be arrested. help us to spread our peaceful movement. We need all of you to support us in Brazil.

Low - ego, and low self esteem I suppose. Doesn’t matter what’s in vogue. Revenues and earnings matter. Leadership and management can be bold and beat out weaker management teams -

Name one successful business with a compassionate boss.
