Electric car network gets £40m boost despite sales drop

A DfT spokeswoman said:"The plug-in car grant has supported the purchase of 180,000 new cars with over £700m, including 100,000 plug-in hybrids."

The government's new investment marks the first anniversary of the launch of the government's Road to Zero strategy, which wants"almost every car and van" in the UK to be zero emission by 2050.It has handed £2.3m to a company called Char.gy, which is developing ways to deploy wireless charging technology on residential streets which would remove the need for trailing cables and additional infrastructure.

For now, virtually any fully electric car would have to be modified and fitted with a pad, costing around £1,000.Under the pilot, some people will get the induction pads for free.

Don’t believe a word that comes from the bbc

If you'd like to see the stats that The BBC is intentionally misrepresenting here see:

The BBC is intentionally cherry picking negative data from the stats. The drop is for hybrids, NOT full EVs. Plug-in hybrid registrations have dropped, with 50.4% fewer PHEVs sold last month than in June 2018

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) shows that 60.3% more electric cars have been sold in 2019 compared to last year. This is despite the overall market – which is still dominated by petrol and diesel vehicles – declining by 3.4% in the same six-month period.

Until Electric cars are cheaper than petrol cars to buy, nobody will buy them..

It’s doomed

Another day, another inaccurate story about electric cars from the BBC. You have to wonder who is behind this. For the record, there has been an increase in EV sales in the UK. The 'drop' refers only to hybrids. Seen this, bobbyllew FullyChargedShw ?

This article is factually wrong and deliberately misleading. The sales drop is in hybrid vehicles, not in electric cars. Sales of pure electric cars have gone up. The 'despite' part of your headline seems to be part of your ongoing campaign against EVs. This is bad journalism.

Sounds like the 'grant farmers' have turned their attention elsewhere.

Try driving from one end of the country to the other on electric power without a stop

Peanuts! They should be going for grid scale storage with combined charger/inverter stations

40m? Lol whoopie doo, this goverment paid 1bil just to get enough backing in parliament and that backing has abandoned them now.

Misleading headline. The drop is in sales of plug-in hybrids. Hybrids are not proper electric cars. Sales of actual electric cars still rising rapidly, as the article makes clear

£40m... what does that actually mean in terms of accessibility? It's by no means clear how much of a difference that amount of money would make...

Electric isn’t the answer for a lot of people.

Sales don’t matter, fact is we cannot use what we’ve been using forever, simple. The people have to buy electric if they want a car in the near future.
