To those criticising the decision – imagine what it’s like for those living with deafness. Or people like me with tinnitus, a permanent ringing in the ear, which doesn’t go away after the credits. The ability to ‘experience’ deafness from Ben’s perspective, to put yourself in someone else’s shoes – albeit artificially, in this case – is an inspired way to showcase disability on-screen, especially for an invisible disability like deafness.

I can't be the only Deaf person to find this misguided and cringeworthy. I don't care how well it's done, deafness is not a gimmick, it's a lived experience that no sound effect can give you and you shouldn't need to have to walk in someone else's shoes to have empathy.
