U-turn over 'segregating' children at London housing development

Henley Homes now says it does not oppose communal access for all children at the development

"The residents of Wren Mews, a neighbouring block, which is not owned or managed by Henley Homes, do not have the right of access to the Baylis Old School estate at all," she said. Mr Usmani said he would be"leading the way forward in engaging with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a workable solution can be put in place as soon as practically possible".

The Guinness Partnership, which owns and manages Wren Mews, said on Wednesday it was"in absolute agreement" with Henley Homes that"all customers should have access to all play areas and amenities".

The private tenants pay money for maintenance of the park so I agree it should only be allowed to the children who’s parents pay for it to be maintained

A forced u-turn otherwise it would've continued and be defended.

How was it for you

Good news👍

Who pays the fees for the maintenance of the grounds?

Any developer doing this should be named and shamed. It’s the only way they’ll stop doing it.

No way, after a barrage of bad publicity, they're opening the gates. Who'd have thought that possible You can sense some 'stakeholder engagement' crisis management 'professional' giving the developer this sage advice for a hefty fee.

Residents told to stay on polluted streetA council says it will not buy residents' homes on the most polluted street outside London. The Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollution (COMEAP) (2018) couldn't agree that there is any link between mortality and NO2 because the evidence is so weak: Hire a bulldozer & if all resident agree 1st, bulldoze the street down! Of course they won’t, but if it was to build another road they’d be compulsory purchased, or if some builder wanted it they’d soon help. Councils don’t give a shit about the same man just like our government doesn’t

Segregated playground developer now says all children are welcomeHenley Homes owns and manages the Baylis Old School development in London, where poorer children were barred from using the shared playground But will the housing association kids have to wear armbands, and clear up after the stalwart children of home purchasers? 1/ I don't believe them 2/ It's happening all over the country. Including the road where I rent a house and am prevented from using the communal area because I'm not a 'resident'. Trying too jump from the one river bank to the other, ended up sitting in the river 'frequently'. Arriving home smelling of smoke after trying to re-light the bonfire from the night before by blowing on the embers and denying it to my parents, thick ear time!! 😇

Have you experienced segregation in housing developments?A developer in London has blocked children in social housing from using a communal plaground. Have you come across anything similar? No....but I'd be extremely frustrated and annoyed knowing that ive spent £400k+ on my flat and the local drug dealer moves in next door with all rent paid via benefits. In Hatfield £250k flats sold with shared entrances/neighbours of housing association with undesirables housed. Yeah we segregate our recycling. We’re animals I have. I tried to go and sit in the office of the Guardian Editor, but weirdly I wasn't allowed to as the office is 'segregated'.

Too poor to play: children in social housing blocked from communal playgroundIn a move reminiscent of the poor doors scandal, a London developer has segregated play areas for richer and poorer residents The great segregated society we live in, just reminds me of how South Africa used to be where privileged whites had the best areas for their kids to play. saddest thing I have read today This is disgraceful and shaming
