The latest descent, which reached 10,927m beneath the waves, is now the deepest by 11m - making Victor Vescovo the new record holder.Don Walsh , who dived to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in 1960, congratulated Victor Vescovo
Witnessing the dive from the Pacific was Don Walsh. He told BBC News:"I salute Victor Vescovo and his outstanding team for the successful completion of their historic explorations into the Mariana Trench. They also discovered brightly coloured rocky outcrops, possibly created by microbes on the seabed, and collected samples of rock from the seafloor.
It has been funded by Mr Vescovo, a private equity investor, who before turning his attention to the ocean's extreme depths also climbed the highest peaks on the planet's seven continents. At its core is a 9cm-thick titanium pressure hull that can fit two people, so dives can be performed solo or as a pair.
Wielki wyczyn; gratulacje ślę z Polski :-))))
Amazing! Too bad about the plastics , thats aweful to see garbage in our oceans
I’ve been looking for that shopping bag, what a story it must know.
Did I hear a niner 🧐
That fund has just saved him 5p . Regards.
Worried ,marine life is at risk.
So they basically found treasure? It's worth 10p you know.
A polar bear dropped it.
Wow!
INCREDIBLE 😊
But the Kardashian’s have just had another kid
The plastic bag, one of mankinds greatest achievments.
Where’s the bag?
It was clearly planted there. Publicity stunt!
nice to nice
WhySharksMatter So, how did the plastic bag get to the bottom of the ocean? Some very determined ocean mammals, fish and critters were playing vertical relay? Or was that just VERY dense plastic?
:/
Wal Mart no doubt!!
Alt_NASA And there's me thinking the deepest part of the planet is the cesspool of lies from Donald Trump ....
Extremely frustrated on how many things we recycle only to find the recycling companies just throw it all into the dump.
This is huge!!!!!! Congrats to everyone involved, how exciting
Astonishing that for only the third time in history humans go somewhere and the most noteable thing is how fucked up we made it
lmao that plastic bag is chillin
Plastic 7 miles deep. Fuck
I can’t find a picture of the plastic bag. Anyone see it anywhere?
To attempt this at any location other than the Indian Ocean upsets me. MH370
I hope ShopRiteStores and the rest of these groceries stores stop all the plastic bags 😱😱😱😱
How the heck did it get down there?!
Still had to pay 5p for it
InLWithLBeingL Just one?
Hope he kept it Morrisons are now charging 20p each for bags 😂
I'm sad, ticked, and impressed at the same time
And we went to space lol
BBCWorld Remarkable advertising opportunity
Was it the one from American Beauty?
Wow
He didn’t have to go all the way down there. I’ve got loads of them stuffed in my closet he can have.
Who cares
Hmm. My bullsh!t alarm just went off. Sounds like a very convenient piece of green propaganda. Show us the video and the pictures, or it didn't happen.
I got goose bumps when I heard “at the bottom”, but watching the grenadier fish was AMAZING (Coryphaenoides sp.)!!!! Gadiformes DeepseaECOGIG DeepSeaUK DSBSoc deepseanews WISSummit
We cannot be using reusable plastic bags for trash. It makes the situation worse.
Not really worth the trip
mybordercollie check it out
Amazing, where NO man has gone before, or That DEEP
Jeez and he just left it there? Shame.
Well it’s not mine my garage is frigging full of the things!
BBCWorld So what
7 billion people on the planet. 1 trash bag is not the problem. Ya know how everywhere you go has a “maximum capacity” sign? That’s there for a reason.
We will all be genuinely saddened by this. We will retweet it as well. Just as inevitable we will buy plastic & polythene bags tommorow. I just hope that new discovery of endlessly recyclable plastic is mass produced soon Technology not individual restrain is the only solution
A further indictment of our global society.
okaysrh
Yey bottom of sea. And a bag of lays chips.b
Well, taht says it all.
BBCWorld Focus on the positives FFS!
That’s a helluva grin fair play

BBCWorld Humans suck sometines
Humans are a disgrace.
That’s nothing that, Jason Statham found a megaladon🤔
And was charged 5p.
Seriously. And how is that news?
Hmmm, yet the BBC was quite happy to dismiss ExtinctionR as a bunch of soapdodgers who are to privileged to understand calling for change is selfish.
Truly amazing being able to explore the depths at 11Km with some deep sea creatures only to be spoilt by a plastic bag ...
Where’s the shopping trolley?
BBCWorld /There are ‘conspiracy theorists’ that claim they saw a candy wrapper blow across the ground during the erecting of the US Flag on the surface of the moon. Hey! Garbage, enough of it will find its way into every nook & cranny. Like; Nadler, Comey, Pelosi,Obama,Biden,Bernie etc.
BBCWorld Is that all you have to say
There’s loads at Tesco’s, I don’t know why they went all that way. Stop eating animals. Stop fishing. It’s all destroying our planet. x ✌🏼💚🌍
This trailer for ‘The Meg 2’ looks sh*te!
Simon_Pegg Danny_McMoomins
How much was it worth
Amazing but fucking hell even a plastic bag ,just can’t keep away from what is killing are marine life .SAD
plastic…
Why is it a sub dive? Didn't he go all in?
Depressing.
BBCWorld Good thing we switched from paper bags. Imagine all the trees that would have been cut down. Oh wait, we can plant new trees🤔. Good thing we listened to the environmentalists about evil paper bags.
BBCWorld If they found one it means the plastic bangs will all eventually and up there and then be buried under all the sediments that rain to the bottom , a good outcome
BBCWorld Did they retrieve it?
Very cool! The plastic bag was an eye opener. Save the seas!
BBCWorld cool dive...but finding plastic there? Its a sad sad planet ... WWF Greenpeace cleantheplanet
But what was in the bag?
BBCWorld And inside this plastic bag was a two mile long CVS receipt.
Well this is embarrassing. I have been looking everywhere for that thing. I would happily retrieve it if permitted a dive in this sub.
Ha!
BBCWorld Given the size of the ocean & scope of the project: isn’t that bag over-represented? Why reduce the success of this project to “Deepest-ever dive finds a plastic bag”? Clickbait...
BBCWorld Main headline today - plastic bag found at bottom of the sea.
They split with 6 cans in them but make it whole to the ocean floor.... Who specced the engineering?
Congratulations but that's fucking tragic.
Outrageous.
BBCWorld THIS IS THE BIGGEST CRISIS OUR WORLD IS EXPERIENCING…GLOBAL OCEAN POLLUTION. THIS IS WHAT IS HEATING UP THE PLANET MORE THAN ANYTHING. GET A CLUE PEOPLE!
A hex to the subhuman who discarded that plastic..
BBCWorld Plastics everywhere. Interesting, how many centuries will take to fully clean Earth from plastic pollution?
BBCWorld When humans explore new places we should mark it with a plastic bag tied to a flag pole
BBCWorld Simultaneously impressed by the dive, and depressed by the bag.
'And here we are, at the bottem of the deepest point in our oceans for the first time ever, Oh, Tesco beat us to it'
BBCWorld :(
Someone hired a sub just to find a plastic bag? Was it a limited edition bag?
BBCWorld Offcorse!!!
Tesco or Lidl?
Wow some people will do anything to get out of paying 5p for one in the supermarket
I say again, plastic the biggest threat to the environment in all its forms and manufacture !
Holy shit! TAX EVERYONE!!!! 🤣👍
Brave fella

😪
Well done. I can’t find mine in my handbag
