Day-to-day maintenance defence budgets have fallen by nearly £10bn since 2010 figures show. Day-to-day spending on defence has been cut by nearly £10bn in real terms since the Conservatives came to power in 2010, new figures have revealed.
The figures, from the House of Commons library, show the scale of how the Armed Forces were “hollowed out” by underspending over the past 14 years. Sir Keir Starmer has pledged to increase spending to 2.5 per cent but has not set a deadline for reaching that target.
