Cyclist seriously injured after Penwortham crash leaving major road closed for hours

A cyclist was seriously injured after a collision with a car which left a major road closed for around six hours.

Emergency services were called to Golden Way in Penwortham shortly before 1am this morning . It followed reports of a collision near to the junction with Liverpool Road. Lancashire Constabulary said the incident involved a Ford C-Max car and a bicycle both travelling in the direction of Preston. The cyclist, a man in his 40s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.Golden Way was closed for several hours as part of the investigation. It reopened shortly before 7.30am and officers have now launched an appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage.

Sgt Martin Kavanagh of Lancashire Police’s Road Policing Unit, said: "The cyclist suffered serious injuries and our thoughts are with him as he undergoes treatment in hospital. If anyone witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage from Golden Way around the time it happened, we ask you to contact police."
