The health secretary is worried about new variants not yet discovered, and is not sure if English schools will reopen by Easter

And he said the UK has given out more vaccines in the last three days than France has in total since the global race for inoculation against coronavirus began.

But he refused to say whether Britain's borders should be closed to protect people from new variants, given the ones discovered in South Africa and Brazil. "The new variant I really worry about is the one that is out there that hasn't been spotted," Mr Hancock added. And Mr Hancock defended the 12-week gap between two Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine doses, saying the policy will"save lives".

The jab is"89% effective... in the period from 15 to 21 days", he explained, adding experts know"if you have protection as high as 89% on day 21, it is not really possible that this would have declined by much after just 84 days".Image:Labour's shadow home secretary Nick Thomas-Symonds told Sky News"the government hasn't had a grip on this situation throughout".

They need to be very cautious

Then he should resign

So now going to be kept in lockdownh for something that might happen (new variants)?

NeishaWong At this late stage, finally, around a year after I first got Covid19 symptoms, finally, finally, the Secretary of State for Health decides that he will think ahead a little. It has only taken just under 100,000 deaths for the penny to drop.

If there is nothing positive to report just shut the **** up.

What s complete t**t!! How does he know if or when variants come on the scene. How can anyone base restrictions on a possibility or even probability like that? If the Government think like that, then we are doomed to decades of lockdown, because they won’t stop it!!

He sounds like Chicken Licken being worried about the sky falling on his head. Its a virus and mutates, that's what happens. Let's worry about people insisting on lockdowns to a disease that's here to stay.

Top of his game? Not!

Whihx is fine, but given our kids aren't in school. We should surely all enjoy a significant decrease in income tax, since much of that goes to schools...

Same goes for asteroids.

Worrying about undiscovered variants 😂 Our health secretary ladies and gentlemen, total clown.

How far do the government have to take this before we say enough is enough? They are taking the piss out of all of us.

Our dear children🥺

There is hundreds of varients to most viruses....get real.

Are we even sure that there are even any new variants out there or is the government using fear as always to force people into lockdowns?

Get fcukd. Worried about something not discovered. Ridiculous

We are open, never closed!

Fully reopen*

Why don’t we all start living underground just in case ASTEROID?

I wonder if he is fearful of Martians as well?

good luck

Easter next year more like.

Oh for crying out loud. Enough.

Close the borders.

That's the best way. 100%
