Coronavirus: Vietnam coma pilot warns people 'not to be blasé'

Mr Cameron said:"I don't think the NHS could cope if there was a wave of people who needed the amount of care and life support that I needed."The pilot spent 68 days on a ventilator - most of which he was also reliant on an Ecmo machine, a form of life support only used in the most extreme cases.

Dr Patel told the BBC that Mr Cameron surviving such a long time in a medically-induced coma was"exceptional". According to data from the Scottish Intensive Care Society, three-quarters of Covid-19 survivors stay in intensive care for under 21 days, and are ventilated for an even shorter period of time.Stephen Cameron with the British consul general Ian Gibbons and the chairman of Ho Chi Minh City's People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong

Mr Cameron's aim is to pilot a plane again by"early next year". But his rehab will be long and arduous, and his job security has been thrown into doubt by the devastating effects the pandemic has wrought on the Asian air travel industry. He came closer to dying of coronavirus than anyone else in Vietnam, which has had under 10 ICU admissions and fewer than 500 confirmed cases.

There are many illnesses that can cause these issues. They just aren't blasted at you on TV/radio outlets all the time. Viral and bacterial illnesses can and do effect the healthy too. What helps is good hand hygiene and healthy lifestyles, not 'face coverings'.

The ' It won't happen to me'-factor is difficult to ignore. Also, the selfish-gene is stronger in some. Could be the same sort of people who don't understand we have to have certain rules in order for society to function best, i.e traffic rules, littering, social behaviour etc.
