Film director Richard Curtis is among 83 millionaires who are demanding to be 'immediately, substantially and permanently' taxed more to help boost the economic recovery from coronavirus

Film director Richard Curtis is among 83 millionaires who are demanding to be"immediately, substantially and permanently" taxed more to help boost the economic recovery from coronavirus.

Curtis, 63, behind hits such as Love Actually and Four Weddings and a Funeral, is reported to be worth almost £24m. He is part of a group called Millionaires for Humanity, which has signed an open letter urging governments across the globe to make millionaires contribute more financially. They all say raising taxes on the wealthy is the"only choice", and that"humanity is more important than our money".There are 46.8m millionaires worldwide, according to a recent report by financial services company Credit Suisse, and they own nearly half of the world's global wealth.

Encouraging people to spend should be a first priority. At the moment businesses, their staff and courier firms are standing in the way with a bad attitude towards sales and customers. The customer is always right but, shop staff have become rude, bossy and uncaring.

Some of these comments show just how stupid the English are. “Just write a Cheque” is preferable to “all millionaires being taxed more” so he just goes away and stops drawing attention to the fact the Tories only care about the rich and no one else 🤣

He can send the money in right now so why doesn’t he ?

He can pay as much tax as he likes. Nobody will stop him. No need to tell the world about it first.

Virtue signalling anyone?

peut-il aider richard branson

He could always send a cheque to HMRCgovuk ..

An alternate approach: Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey gave 25% of his wealth in the USA for this purpose. This is the once in a century moment when the UK's 1000 richest need to step up and contribute 15% of their wealth to a Covid19 Economic Fund. Increased taxation can be avoided.

He only has to write a cheque

Stupid millionaires!

Doubt doris could even get that right

Fine by me, as long as it’s voluntary. I won’t be contributing a single penny in higher taxes. I refuse.

The Treasury accept voluntary extra tax payments. Of course, that would mean these virtue signallers actually coughing up the money.

He could start by repaying all the public money he's received over the years to make films. I won't hold my breath.

Why make such a big thing of it? Why not just give more money to HMRC if they choose, or give to charity without making a big point out of it? They want lefty attention. That's it. That's why. 'Look how great I am!' 🙄

I dont believe you, its not out of the goodness of your heart.

Notice how none of them are paying more now or donating the equivalent? That because they ultimately want YOU to pay more.

He has had time to hide his taxable assets i assume

They can pay more tax nothing is stopping them.

In the meantime a donation?

There is nothing stopping them from sending extra money.

Should he just voluntarily give away his fortune to random people?
