Some households who cut peak-time electricity use on Monday will get discounts on their bills.

A scheme that offers discounts on bills for households who cut peak-time electricity use will be triggered on Monday as the UK's cold snap continues.

National Grid said the scheme, which is part of its efforts to avoid blackouts and has only been used in tests so far, would run between 17:00 and 18:00 GMT.National Grid said the measures were "precautionary" and it did not mean electricity supplies were at risk. It said it expected electricity supply margins "to be tighter than normal" on Monday, but added that "people should not be worried".The cold weather means demand for energy rises as more people heat their homes., which allows some households to receive discounts if they cut their use of electricity, by, for example, delaying the use of a tumble-dryer or washing machine.

If everyone signed up then what would be the point of it. Peak usage would just be moved to a new time.

It’s definitely not cold ! It’s all fine in the north ! Just the usual issues with the south using too much power & too many EVS plugging in dirty times - gas / coal makes clean electric 🤔🤔🤔🤔

And someone wants to increase ownership of EVs and electric powered heat pumps...

“windmills not working”.. Fixed it for you.. bbcnews

With the greens insisting ban petrol cars where is this electricity expected to be generated from for their EV revolution.

Has anyone heard of Economy 7 ? Oh wait, they charge more for that tariff, go figure 🙄 But it was designed to move load to off peak times, shame the expensive tariff puts a nail in that

So more or less they are trying this and expect blackouts in the future. Another measure to control the public. So within the year there will be daily blackouts etc

bbc make it sound like it hasn't happened before, best they speak to Octopus.

Watford FC 'stops' flasks being taken in despite cold weatherA man fears a blanket ban on taking in hot food and drink to Watford FC stadium could put people off from watching matches. Are you trying to get a copy from the SAG meeting? Maybe look at all the other clubs SAG reports, surely if it's that dangerous ALL clubs would have banned flasks. It's petty & pathetic. The range & quality of catering for a top club is abysmal & massively overpriced. There is no rational reason for banning thermos flasks & whilst I'm writing there are FAR TOO MANY stewards employed on a matchday like yesterday, an unnecessary expense. Maybe Watford should look at how much cash is going in pockets to get round cashless outlets cheaper to keep card in pockets
