Marc Smyth insists Cliftonville will never go down the route of "farming out" young players to clubs across the water as he praised the Reds' approach to nurturing teen talent.
"Where we have been slightly different as a football club, our business model has revolved around young players playing first-team football for Cliftonville. Other clubs have taken the 'How quickly can we sell them to England' approach. For us, we want to nurture the young players," the former defender said.
"It might not be in their best interests. Not all kids are emotionally ready to go away. You have to protect them as well."The threat of other clubs buying their players, evidenced by Larne's capture of Chris Gallagher in January, and the rising costs of transfers, have placed a stronger emphasis on senior boss Magilton recruiting from within at Solitude.
