Had a job interview at a bupa care home yesterday was offered the job on the spot, £9.10 an hour with a mighty insulting uplift of 50p an hour for night shifts. Almost laughed in her face.
In care work, you get the worst of police and nursing work but you get paid less than half that they do. No one tells you about the abuse and risks that staff face..
It's time some care home owners stopped taking multimillion pound dividends

TOMNetworkUK This situation is very real and we are facing a workforce shortage in social care like we have never experienced before. It is really worrying for all of the people we love & care for, their families, staff & for all social care providers who want to support outstanding care 💚
Someone is making a lot of money out of care homes. Fees are extortionate and the staff are paid peanuts for a hard job that not many want to do. Perhaps if the staff were fairly paid they wouldn't have such trouble holding onto them.
Healthcare assistant was one of the hardest (and most rewarding!) jobs I ever did. Also the least well paid
Care workers work awful hours, nights , physical, emotionally hard for crap for minimum wage . I know lots that have left to earn £12 ph in Aldi . Also I can’t believe waking night pay is still exists!!

Raising National Insurance to fund social care is fraught with political riskAnalysis: both employers and employees pay NI but the burden weighs heaviest again on younger workers The Taxpayers money spent on foreign aid would cover the social care bill nicely.Simple. After income tax & rent, if they increase NI by 1%-1.25%, I'd actually be f---ed . Raise it for the rich. I can barely afford my council tax. It's not like your tax money goes far in this country.
