Charity says many have been left in ‘hideous limbo’ as family visits and activities remain limited

Many English care home residents feel as if they are in prison amid seemingly endless coronavirus restrictions on their activities and visitors, with a number “losing the will to live”, a committee of MPs has been told by charities.

Can only remain limited as infections rise again.

One of the many monsterous consequences of lockdown is how inhumanly we have treated those who have little time left to live. We have stolen so much life and life experiences from people.

How can they actually justify reopening schools and yet people in care homes still cannot see their families?

No-one seems to worry about people who are cared for at home. The problems with care homes might be significant, but they are are purely emotional !! Family carers , who have seen all respite care eliminated, have real practical problems !! dementia Alzheimers

This is so sad.

Families in England & USA use Seniors Housing as repository for their old, to avoid hassle of taking care of them. In Italy, multi-generation families are common. Elders are loved, respected and taking care off in homes the elders originally built for the family

Why are they even restricted at this time ? Put clinical measures in place which should be there anyway! Let the families make the decision, denial of contact is immoral and heartbreaking 😔

Welcome to the club old people

Hopefully many Guardian readers will see this and pause for thought that maybe their idea of 'caring' is a little one dimensional. Though I very much doubt this.

I don’t have anyone to visit in a care home, but I can imagine how difficult this lockdown has been for them and others who are alone and vulnerable. Connection is what makes us human

Shielding adults at home too

Not all care homes are suffering like this! oldvic_otterton we've had safely managed family visits, parties, concerts, activities every day and a spirit of 'we are all in this together' with residents, families and our amazing staff. No sad faces here! 😀

We were all set to visit my wife's mother and it was going to be a distanced meeting. Then, the care home suddenly changed their minds and we weren't allowed to see her in any way shape or form, not even through a window. My wife was extremely upset.

The good news is that I can extend your life by 1 or 2 years. The bad news is that you can never see any of your family ever again.

Not only them

WearAMask

Along with the rest of us

This breaks my heart.

They can directly blame PiersMorgan and the rest of MSM. They were the ones pissing their pants with hysteria.

so are most of us hard working citizens, this government is a disgrace

FYI - it's not just care home residents.

I'm sure living a patriarchal, racist, capitalist hellscape can't be helping either
