Restaurants, cafes and takeaways with more than 250 staff must print how many calories are in meals on their menus, websites, and on delivery platforms.
Mark Selby, co-founder Mexican-style street food restaurant Wahaca, told the BBC the chain was "completely up for being clear and transparent" to customers on food and drink information. But he said the focus on counting calories was a problem. The company said it used the change to also add the carbon footprint of meals to measure the climate impact of each dish.the change was a "terrible thing to happen to the hospitality industry". He warned the regulation "could end creativity, spontaneity and lead to boring tick-box cooking".
"I come to the restaurant because I go there knowing what I want to eat," the 19-year-old said. "I go there knowing that it's going to be a big meal. I just eat what I want to eat."James Howlett, from London, said the change wouldn't affect his menu choices. The 18-year-old said: "I didn't notice that they didn't have it down anyway.
Oh dondaisaoty is protesting.
Let's do one better. Just remove the names of the items on the menu and only list them by calories. You then have to guess what you're ordering by its calorie content. Would make for a fun guessing game.
The additional data point may encourage people to explore more items on the menu.
Try putting trans fat and sugar content instead of calories.
Why can’t the calories be on a separate menu? (Like the nutritional menu). That way people can request it if they really want to know the calories. Seems more sensible than possibly causing harm to those with eating disorders...

oh no👑😍🏆
Letak atau tidak, hanya orang yang peka tentang pengambilan kalori akan ambil tahu. Yang lain? Seperti tiadanya...
This is about as useful as focusing on BMI for the uneducated. Bring in proper food education and the problem would be halved!!
As someone with an eating disorder this puts me off even more from going to restaurants, cafes etc.
If BBC can produce a single mental health charity or nutritional expert that thinks this is a good idea then I'll be astounded
If you go to a restaurant and order a burger. No one is going to care about the calorie count or be under the illusion that it is healthy.
We are adults,leave us alone
Reading the comments shows exactly why this won’t do a thing. So many clueless people
So it won't be at my local kebab place 😃
Good old Wetherspoons ahead of the game by yonks!
I was told once by a customer..' I'll have the diet fizzy orange can as I'm on a diet'.. instead of fresh orange juice. Point is, if you sell healthy food you don't make any money. For the sake of money we serve shit and people love it. Bit like MC Donald, it's shit but sells
The NHS is there always patching up the once who gone too far with bad diet and that's why people don't care about what they eat. I'm in the food industry and people are shocking in their food choices. Also there's a lot of ignorance out there .
As they disappear from a lot of vulnerable households
Very rarely I have seen something healthy on the menu. Unless going to posh restaurant. Costs arm an a leg and always walk out hungry. British love junk food, shame the healthy take away never make enough money, so they close down quickly.
Consequently, healthy bean dishes are showing higher calories than sugary milkshakes. Hardly effective ‘nudge theory’.
Who is going to bother with them? When I go out for a meal I have what I want from the menu and never look or think about calories. I am there to enjoy a meal. Another useless set of jobs created for someone to do, adds expense to my meal.
