from the government show 9.5 million jobs - a third of the private sector work force - have been furloughed during the pandemic, at a cost of £31.7bn to the Treasury.said fewer than 4.5 million workers were currently on the scheme, down from a high of nearly eight million in April.
"Even with critical emergency measures in place, jobs are sadly being lost in the here and now," said FSB chairman Mike Cherry. Under the scheme, workers get 80% of their salaries paid for by the government - up to £2,500 a month. Dan Tomlinson, senior economist at the think tank, said the scheme had protected family incomes and prevented"catastrophic levels of unemployment".

If only we had a coronavirus management plan based on infection-levels! Everybody could know where we are and what may happen next! Then, perhaps, we could have Government finance matched to the plan. Of course, we'd need early-detection and local management for breakouts.
Really? 9 out if 9 of my friends whose jobs were in the City are still furloughed. One friend's wife who worked for Lewins Shirts is out of work as are all their staff and she is now on Jobseekers benefits after 22 years of working every day since leaving school.
