Bus ‘destroyed’ after catching fire in Twickenham

Passengers and the driver left the bus before the fire brigade arrived and there were no reported injured, the fire brigade said.“One diesel single decker bus was destroyed by the fire. All passengers and the driver left the bus before the Brigade’s arrival. There are no reports of any injuries.

“The road remains closed following the incident and people are advised to avoid the area for the rest of the day. The Brigade was called at 1318 and the incident was over for firefighters at 1426. BREAKING: A bus is on fire on Richmond Road, Twickenham, London, United Kingdom. Cause of the fire is being investigated. Firefighters are on the scene.“Crews from Twickenham, Richmond, Heston and Kingston fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation”.

Drivers have been urged to avoid the area after traffic delays were reported. Later images show the bus burnt out after the fire was extinguished.“I looked up and saw a massive plume of smoke, and my neighbours and I went down an alleyway and saw the bus on fire.“There were definitely people on the bus, but they all got off the bus before something bad could happen”.

A spokesperson for Transport for London said a “full investigation” will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire, while enquiries from the police and fire brigade are ongoing.
