British citizens born in US risk having UK bank accounts frozen

Tens of thousands of British citizens born in the US but who left when only a few months or years old risk having their bank accounts in Britain frozen – because of intense pressure by US tax authorities on UK banks.

British citizens who were born in America (like me) are dual nationals - they have to file annual tax returns (for any foreign income above $12,000) & FBARs (if they have accounts outside the US with $10,000)

It seems like there's an easy solution. Just close the account!

Counties where people are forced to pay taxes regardless if they live/work there: Libya North Korea and United State

For big trade deal now read big tax bill.

In my opinion all they should do is complete form W8BEN and lodge it with their Bank, this shows they pay tax elsewhere and do not pay tax in the USA as they are not US citizens. This suffices for US Bank accounts so surely here. Can be filled in online.

In Spain it’s their houses taken. In Scotland it’s their nationality. Unsettling times.

'Those born before 1986 were never allocated a tax identification or social security number'. Not sure what may have changed in 1986, but there is no requirement in the USA to have a SSN if you don't work.

Tariffs are not making up difference of tax cuts, so they trying everything to generate revenue.

I'm American and have lived in the UK for 18 years. I have children born here and I worry about them having to file US taxes when they start earning. It's absurd to have this hanging over our heads and being told to file complicated tax returns to a country we don't reside in.
