The UK has been accused of breaking its own laws after announcing fishing quotas that exceed scientific recommendations for more than half of fish species CapurrodDaniel reports:

The UK has been accused of breaking its own laws after announcing fishing quotas that exceed scientific recommendations for more than half of fish species.by the Government’s own scientific advice. Just 40 per cent have been set in line with that advice.. Defra claims that the UK has had an “uplift” of £101m more quota this year than it would have had inside the EU, out of a total of £756m.

The percentage of each species quota apportioned to the UK and EU is pre-agreed, but the two sides then negotiate the total tonnage that can be caught. The UK also negotiates some quotas in a trilateral arrangement with the EU and Norway, and a small number with various coastal states. It would be feasible, say NGOs, for the UK to demand lower quotas in the negotiations, but economic incentives are given priority.

Brexit: DUP will vote against government plansThe party's leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson says he will continue to work with the government to address 'outstanding issues'.
