It follows reported concerns from the international trade secretary over the readiness of Britain's ports.

, suggested Ms Truss had expressed concerns about the government's plans to phase in checks on EU goods coming into the UK after the Brexit transition period.

Ms Truss reportedly warned fellow ministers that failing to impose full border controls until July could see increased smuggling from the EU, lead to legal challenges at the World Trade Organization, and even weaken the union with Northern Ireland.

Infrastructure = more destruction of our countryside.

Good keep the fkas out

That’s not a boost, it’s 700m down the drain. Nice attempt to spin.

Absolutely not a boost. It's a shocking waste of money on a day we learn about rise of malnutrition of children on the rise during lockdown. And the locals aren't happy either.

Or costs £705M

If we cancelled Brexit (I know we can’t) we would be able to give at least an extra £350m a week to the NHS that we are currently spending on Brexit. Does anyone know where I can hire a bus?

Bit of a nit pick , UK boarders , Brexit Boarders. Feel a tea spoon stir there

Not a boost. Just another waste of money. All so unnecessary BrexitReality

And we thought Covid was bad

It's not boost but waste.

Boost = spin. Where is the money coming from exactly?

Who is getting their contracts? Are they Tory donors or close to Cummings? ToryBrexit

It's all going so well lol

How is it in anyway a boost for something that was previously unnecessary ?

Lol boost ! What a stupid way to describe money being wasted for ideological madness

SteveBakerHW Stop spending my money this way! Cut taxes!

A bigger ‘boost’ would be free trade

Where is all this money coming from?

Boost?

Didn't see that on the side of a bu...oh never mind.

I’m quite happy paying extra tax to cover coronavirus costs but having to pay for utter stupidity is quite another thing

It does need it, however whilst the border farce UKBorder provide a taxi service to 1000's of illegals & potential terrorists every week I can't see how we can ever secure our borders pritipatel michaelgove need to come clean & live in real world, tell us why we ship ppl in

Lol, this has triggered the bedwetters 😂 Thanks BBC, it's made my morning laughing at all the desperate rants...

Translation: We'll all be paying £705m more for this stupid fucking idea.

Good you have now removed the word 'boost' from this front page report....

pritipatel BorisJohnson michaelgove We voted to reduce immigration. The government's proposed immigration changes of reducing the salay cap and changes to international student categories will ONLY MASSIVELY INCREASE already very high numbers especially non EU immigration.

We still doing this?!!

Read the article. Sounds good to me.

We’re led by liars & cheats! This is a complete nonsense! Nobody voted for this. People voted to leave will also lose jobs!

Boost? Surely the head line shout read 'Brexit border infrastructure to cost taxpayer an additional....'

How can it be a boost? Its like cancelling your AA membership and the next day having to spend it on a tow.

£705 boost? they don't keep them out now; so for an increased flow of migrants. They are creating new paths into the UK as though to make it easier. So money for a Calais hotel and ferry; quick route to NHS/infrastructure jobs. What about a stop sign? its easy to implement.

All part of the Brexit lie

Oh but you all want HS poo so you can save 30 mins off a train journey to live outside London........ Oh look another project which is London centric and benefits London, if it was to improver the rail it should have started in Newcastle and worked down the country

Another way of saying it is: Brexit border infrastructure to cost £705m. BBC has lost all credibility.

So, that's £705m of our money squandered & NOT going to the NHS or care sector. Brexit just keeps on giving... 🙄

'No checks at the border' turns out to be a lie. Costing the taxpayer at least £705 million. Who is writing these headlines? Where have they been for the past few years?!

I missed the usual 'world beating'... what a wonderful way to throw 705 m out of the window to satisfy the Brexit fantasies of a minority.

BrexitIsACrime

They’re bonkers - spending £20,000 per person to recruit 500 border staff Who will get this contract - mates of Johnson or vcummings?

Scenes when they give the border control contract to a company who makes candy floss with shares owned by Michael Gove.

Boost!? There is no infrastructure, try - ‘Gov scramble to deal with reality of brexit’ ‘Brexit consequences costs uk £705 Million in lorry parking’

Boris's Borders like Trumps walls. More dodgy contracts to Non relevant companies registered in offshore havens. Taking back control just like with passports.

Bureaucrats did well manipulating the extremists nationalists. Apart from living the EU which other promise will happen?

Is only 2 weeks of NHS funding that was promised on Boris red brexit bus. Pocket money! Please my friends, no cause to be angry or debate and let's all do what comrade Boris always tells us: issue has been cleared, let's carry on and focus on future.

Fantastic more jobs

This isn’t a boost! It’s another £700 million pounds of public money spaffed up the wall to build ‘infrastructure’ to slow down trade. No government with the UK interests at heart would ever consider this. It’s complete madness and it’s about time reported honestly.

This headline reads like it is a good thing. How about....’£705M wasted on avoidable trade barriers’

It's not really a 'boost' is it? £705m of taxpayers money to put in a borders! What's happening with the border to Ireland btw?

We’re spending over £700m on red tape for a self-imposed customs border that will actively harm us.

Really - check your tone! 🤯

Let's come back on this thread in a couple of years and see what the actual costs were. Any increase in £10b on this infrastructure?

sundaymorning bbc news - brexit. Great, so I'd better update the MagicMoneyTreeCard AGAIN!!!

BorisJohnson EmmaLewellBuck if PM allows UK to crash out of Europe he will do for the conservatives what Mr Corbyn did for Labour. Swallow your pride, delay leaving EU and get a trade deal. We are already losing too many jobs thru Covid. You are shooting yourself in foot.

Boost?!!!

It’s a start but that spend will need to multiplied many times over if the UK is serious about having the secure border that was promised

Watch out Dover City, you will be penned in with Lorries and cars jamming your streets. But, never mind you got your Brexit

But But But You can not trust Labour with finances 🤪

Good job we are ahead of the planning game again, how many days? What company has the IT contract?

another grand statement another botch up.

It’s not a boost; it’s a cost.

Boost?

your headline should read “cost of Brexit border infrastructure to UK Taxpayer rises by £705million” and you wonder why people question your neutrality! 🤦‍♂️

How is this a boost? It’s money we needn’t have spent solving a problem we didn’t have. Another example of BorisJohnson’s incompetence. It’s another debt our children will have to pay off 😡

Or alternatively, '£705m wasted on infrastructure voters were told wouldn't ever be needed'

Wasn’t Brexit supposed to reduce the cost of red tape.....

The Johnson regime is going to bankrupt the country with reckless and unnecessary spending.

I thought we had forgotten all about Brexit ? 🤔

Given the time scale this knee jerk cash injection is all far too late. Just more of our tax money poured down the Brexit toilet pan by people with a narrow political agenda.

Why would we be spending money when Brexit was going to make us all richer? Oh yes, I forgot. Brexit was a pack of lies!

Before the referendum the Brexit said this sort of red tape and waste of money was ‘project fear’. Any mention of that in your article?

How does creating barriers and ending EU and 40 other trade deals allow U.K. to open up? It’s Orwellian Doublespeak. 10DowningStreet marr People fell for it. An indictment of the standard of education in the U.K.

If only UK had some past experience of creating hard borders then maybe ruling party could have applied it 🤫

Good. KEEP ‘EM OUT!

Brexit

Better late than never.

EUnotCoup What awful reporting. This isn't a 'boost'! This is one of the immense, unnecessary COSTS of Brexit. The Leave campaign promised we'd spend less money if we left the EU. This money could be going to the NHS or useful infrastructure. Stop repeating government propaganda!

But Brexit was going to be frictionless, easy, with far less red tape and 'No downsides'?

Throwing money at it in hopes people think it's sorted. It's that even new money or just a repeat of an earlier spending announcement

Nothing but upsides... 🤦🏻‍♀️

money well spent

What do you mean boost? Will be more income? Profit?

WHERE is all this money coming from?!

You mean the EU won’t be taking care of this to keep the dumbasses from infecting them?

Where the flippin eck is all this money coming from....

I’m starting to think Brexit is a bad idea...🤔

That’s dumb
