BORIS JOHNSON may be on the brink of a Brexit deal but a newly released book has revealed how Article 50 was actually “stacked against” any country wanting to withdraw from the EU – and it was drafted by Sir John Major's right-hand man during Maastricht negotiations, Lord John Kerr.

Summit begins tomorrow, so he can avoid evoking the Benn Act and asking the EU for another extension. Negotiations hang on the edge of a knife – but Britain's future relationship with Brussels has been up for debate since former Prime Ministertriggered Article 50 – the 250-word clause in the 2007 Lisbon Treaty explaining how an EU country can leave the union unilaterally – in March 2017.
