are acceptable forms of photo ID, along with some other forms of photo identification such as an older person’s bus pass. Documents can be out of date, as long as the photo is still recognisable. While it is true that the Post Office does require identification to pick up a parcel, the list of what
is much longer—including non-photo identification documents such as a cheque book, a paid utility bill or a debit card.at its depots if you are collecting a parcel on behalf of someone else or a parcel which requires age verification, but non-photographic ID such as a bank statement or credit card is accepted if you’re the intended recipient.
my post office does ask for photo ID
Somebody else who clearly not read the script !
Government thought carefully about this. Realised a Russian trying to fix a UK election might impersonate someone and steal their vote - not influencing any result in any way. They concluded voter ID was not necessary. But realised it was a good way to exclude Labour voters.
Which of his alter ego’s did he use?
Brandon Lewis is the MP for Great Yarmouth. The people of Great Yarmouth now know better and will be electing their new gull wing bridge at the next election...
But why can an older person use an oyster card as I'd but a younger can't?
paullewismoney To be used to stop poor people who have not got a driving license or passport (and cannot afford one) voting. A tactic alredy being used in the USA.
Plus, that ID is valid whether you're 18 or 80, it doesn't change depending on whether you're a Tory voter.
It's quite alarming how many times we see the words 'Tory MP' and 'misleading' in the same sentence these days.
hjmgalezia They lie so often, it becomes 2nd nature.
We have no national ID system in the U.K. where citizens are EXPECTED to carry it as in many countries in Europe, so many people don’t have it. Voter fraud is a vanishingly small and it takes deliberate credulousness to ignore the reason for voter ID.
VintiquesMark A Tory lying? well colour me shocked
gj1023 This is why the Tories are sooo thick!! 🤬🤬
He’s another one who’s as thick as pig poo
And what is this? Voter ID and no ID
He is such a duck
Judging by how long the post is taking currently, we may as well pick up our parcels from a polling station.
BestForBritain That’s right, each is pointless. As I point out every time to my local collection depot, if a debit or credit card is adequate confirmation of my identification, it doesn’t account for the possibility that I might have stolen the entire purse. They prob hate me. But I am right.
The address is usually enough
BestForBritain Always the lied
As an ex-librarian I can assure you that it is not the same thing at all. When’s the last time he went to a Public Library
BestForBritain Is it true that the company that will be responsible for organising and issuing the ID is none other than Sunak’s father in law’s - Infosys? The one allegedly supported by Russian money. If true is that OK or does that breach some sort of anti CORRUPTION rule?
paullewismoney The library card comparison is even more nonsensical than that: does he think that people get on the electoral register without any checks at the moment? 🤡
BestForBritain It’d be more amazing if a Tory told the truth
BestForBritain Also, not all photo ID works for voting purposes... oddly enough, predominantly it's those least likely to vote Conservative who can't use their ID, such as young people!
Shock as Tory MP gives misleading answer
Shock as Tory MP gives misleading answer
I think you’d tweet far less when Government tell the truth 😁 Voter ID is used widely across Europe, especially in Sweden where it’s used to access public services. As long as the ID is free or very cheap, I see no issue. If it’s good enough for Sweden……
So I can vote with my electricity bill?
Misleading? You mean he lied.
But the principle is the same
It’s not “misleading” it’s just a poor example of day to day situation where you need ID .
Misleading? A Tory MP? Who would have thought it?
Last time I picked up a parcel from the PO they demanded photo ID and I had to go back home for my passport since I don't drive. I would welcome voter ID if everyone else accepted it.
Or he could be suggesting a QR code is an appropriate identification to vote?
Brandon telling porkies I’m shocked
PhilBillingham Imagine thinking you’ve achieved something by pointing out those differences.
The same identification required to donate to the Tory Party and prove it does not provide you with a conflict of interest.
The majority of Europe use voter ID. Strange how all those who want us to be in the EU and do things together are against something which the majority on the continent do.
Fun Fact: You can’t use a polling card as ID for picking up a parcel from the Post Office.
The basic point is still valid, though.
Either he's never picked up a parcel or ... 🤔
thinkagainIAO The delivery company leave you a card to take with you. You know, like a polling card.
Also, picking up a parcel is not a basic right and responsibility of living in a democracy
A super important difference. I know many people in less than ideal circumstances who don't have photo id and for whom paying for a driving licence or passport is fantasy land. Do we know if Local Authorities have been given the details they need to set up local alternatives?
if you put all the Tory lies together, they'd probably stretch around the planet.
Should we expect a correction in parliament?
Liars gonna lie, they know they will lose at the next General Election if they dont instigate some serious voter suppression
We all get a polling card through the post. It's always puzzled me why they never even want to see this, and yet suddenly it's photo ID. Clearly another agenda here. And at huge cost to all of us.
