Civil servants claimed Boris Johnson set a 'damaging precedent' when he cleared Priti Patel of misconduct

Civil servants have started legal proceedings over’s decision to overturn his independent adviser’s findings that Priti Patel bullied staff.

Downing Street was issued with a pre-action notice on Wednesday accusing the Prime Minister of setting a ‘damaging precedent’ for ministers not being held accountable in the same way other employers are. In November Mr Johnson cleared home secretary Priti Patel of misconduct despite an investigation concluding she had bullied civil servants.

Sir Alex Allan, who led the investigation, resigned after he would not tone down his report when Mr Johnson asked him to. The FDA union, which represents over 500 civil servant officials, issued the notice as the first step towards a judicial review of Number 10’s actions,
