‘It was a kind of rollercoaster really’ - Jo tells Milly_on_Air why a toxic relationship made sense to her when she was in recovery from addiction: 📻

Gail Porter on her rise to celebrity and her fall into depression, anorexia, self-harming and homelessness. Plus we continue our series on toxic relationships. In 1999, Gail Porter was one of the UK’s most sought-after female TV presenters. Most famously, she helped sell over a million copies of FHM magazine after her naked image was projected onto the Houses of Parliament.

Milly Chowles has set out to try to understand why, when it comes to relationships, we often repeat what we've done in the past. In the second of her series about toxic relationships she talks to Jo who felt compelled to seek out conflict and drama. Despite a lifetime of correspondence, just 160 of Jane Austen’s letters survive to the present day. The vast majority were burned by her beloved sister Cassandra after her death. But what secrets was she trying to destroy? In her latest novel, Miss Austen, Gill Hornby imagines the complex relationship and lives of these two sisters and the events that motivated the editing and rewriting of Jane’s history.

Gailporter Lovely, honest interview, really enjoyed listening.

Gailporter A moving but strong interview. Porter's sense of humour shone through, her strength. And, I have to say, what a gorgeous speaking voice. More of her on Radio, say I.

GillHornby She was pretending to have elected a new pope?

Gailporter May I suggest a title? 'Gail Force'. It must have taken immense courage to admit how low you fell, which makes your recovery even more remarkable and brave.

Gailporter Can we not say “indulged” in self harm like it’s some massive treat

BBC Radio 4 - Woman's Hour, Modest Fashion, Behind the Unemployment Figures, the Art of ListeningThe new unemployment figures are out today – but what do we know about the jobs women have lost, the jobs they’re doing and what they get paid? realVickyPryce and kategobell discuss: 📻 Maybe all the BBC radio 4 presenters need to go on a course because they don't really listen. News reporters are the worst. But it might help if they had more non white and working class presenters - never happen but they give lip service to diversity until you check the figures! I would like to know the answer to this. I saw a lady on projectrunway creating modest clothing. Despite it covering the body, it was often closefitting as were here own clothes. What is considered modest? What is modest fashion? It's victim-blaming, repressive authoritarian nonsense, unless of course...

Bernie Sanders says gender is 'obstacle' for women in politicsIn radio interview, Vermont Senator says: 'The world has changed, and to those people who think that a woman cannot be elected, you're dead wrong' Money is the biggest obstacle. Politicians , buy their offices, never earn them.... The culprit is not gender. Women shoot themselves in the foot when they choose a male candidate over their own. They rejected Hillary in the last election and chose Trump. Bernie Sanders in stead of hitting the nail on the head he chooses to beat about the bush and blames gender. Way to go with that headline that doesn't inflame things at all? 🤦🏿‍♂️ His actual point was that people look at the totality of a candidate and not to indulge in the idiots game of identity politics. Your headline is more about getting a reaction than informing people.
