The girl was born to a 22-year-old first time mother and appeared to be healthy. Doctors didn't notice anything was wrong until the mother detected a problem. A case report said the opening of the girl's rectum was 'entirely covered by skin'.
Actually that is the nurses job to do a thorough assessment of health, called APGAR at birth.
