The Australian Open could allow players to compete even if they have Covid-19Back in 2021, the tournament took place in a biosecure bubble with stars being forced to quarantine in hotel rooms for 14 days.
Last year, there were daily tests for players and all had to be vaccinated in order to enter the country, unless they had a valid exemption.Rules have been relaxed in the country during the past 12 months and last week cricketer Matt Renshaw was able to play for Australia in a Test against South Africa in Sydney despite contracting Covid-19.
“It’s a normalised environment for us and, not dissimilar to the cricket, there will potentially be players that will compete with Covid,” Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley told reporters at Melbourne Park in addition to revealing competitors are not required to test for coronavirus this year.Tiley [right] was speaking at the launch of the 2023 tournament
