Low income linked to high recurrence risk, poorer survival in women with ER-positive breast cancer jamanetworkopen

Do household income levels factor into 21-gene recurrence score and mortality among patients with estrogen receptor -positive breast cancer?In this cohort study involving 119 478 women, low income was associated with higher RS and worse survival. On subgroup analysis, similar findings were observed among those with RS below 26, while there was no survival difference between income levels among others with scores 26 or higher.

Data analysis was performed from July 2022 to September 2022.Low vs high neighborhood-level household income levels defined as below vs above the median household income of $50 353 based on each patient’s zip code.Among 119 478 women , 82 198 and 37 280 patients had high and low income, respectively. Logistic multivariable analysis showed that, compared with high income, low income was associated with higher RS . Cox MVA showed that low income was also associated with worse OS .
