Armed duo burst into Morrisons store with crowbars before threatening staff

A pair of armed robbers burst into a Morrisons store with crowbars before threatening staff. The terrifying incident unfolded at the supermarket on Manchester Road, Astley, last Friday .

It was reported that two men had entered the shop before threatening and demanding that staff inside took them into the back office. Once there, the pair stole a 'significant' sum of money and then further cash and cigarettes from the till area, police said. It is believed that the pair then fled the scene in a white Fiat 500. Nobody was injured during the incident, which is now being investigated by Greater Manchester Police.A CCTV image of two hooded men entering the store has been circulated by the force. Police say it is believed they are two people who could 'help with enquiries'.

Detective Constable Harris, from GMP’s Wigan district, said: "Thankfully no one was injured during this incident, but a significant sum of money was taken and we have a zero tolerance for these sort of crimes. I appreciate the CCTV isn't the clearest, but if anyone recognises the pair in the image, please do get in touch.

"If anyone has any information, please get in touch with us. This includes any relevant CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage. You can contact us on 101, via gmp.police.uk, or by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
