Remarks come as Michael Gove accuses Greater Manchester mayor of ‘political posturing’

“On present trends, in just over two weeks there will be more Covid patients in intensive care than at the peak of the first wave. I cannot stress enough – time is of the essence. Each day that passes before action is taken means more people will go to hospital, more people will end up in intensive care, and tragically more people will die.

Let AndyBurnhamGM and other northern Mayors have the powers to Test, trace and isolate and close/open venues. Let’s devolve powers to help level up the north as BorisJohnson promised. Local mayors will have more trust, make it more a team effort hand better to control virus

It's blatantly obvious that Johnson has no clue that in Mcr we've been living in these restrictions since the end of July. Tier 2 is a reprieve as I got to see my family outside for the first time since then. Govt need to focus on the problem which is the test and trace system.

He should spend more time focussed on those in his city that chose not to follow the rules. Deal with your own rule breakers rather than blaming others and expecting other tax payers to bail you out with more money you are in charge, get control

King in the north!

Coronavirus: Michael Gove accuses Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham of 'posturing' over COVID rules stand-offMichael Gove has accused Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham of 'posturing' and 'political positioning' in refusing to accept strict new COVID-19 rules. Silly games at Westminster. Boris told by PR team not to make further threats to Manchester (not a good look).. so his buddy is wheeled out to do it instead. They're just spoiled rich kids playing the same games they did at private school. Overpaid and in jobs at little risk. Andy Burnham wants workers to receive financial support and compensation for locking down. If Gove doesn't understand that people on low incomes getting 66% of this won't cause them serious hardships he should go and have a chat with his boss, who can't get by on 150K FFS!! It's a non story since michaelgove is paid to support his master's bidding, and himself has a dubious relationship with 'truth'! So why should we pretend to be surprised by his comments. Though Govt has to make Policy, we don't yet live in an authoritarian dictatorship: listen!

Andy Burnham's opportunism over the Manchester lockdown makes Labour look ridiculous'Burnham’s flip-flopping follows a tired old path with opposition parties,' writes RossjournoClark RossjournoClark really poor journalism/writing a) hardly insightful after 3 election defeats and current 80 seat majority govt. b)let's not distract from the PM Cummings & Boris's govt handling of the pandemic - at best a malicious intent & a corrupt clusterf**k. RossjournoClark All they have to fight with is point scoring. RossjournoClark All they want is a magic money tree. For once. I actually agree (mostly) 😂🙄
