The widow of PC Andrew Harper - who died after he was dragged for more than a mile by a getaway car - has called for people who kill emergency workers to receive life sentences, the Daily Express reports. The paper says Lissie Harper is campaigning against"soft sentences" after the driver was jailed for 16 years.
The Financial Times headline quotes Lebanon's president, Michel Aoun, pledging to punish the"negligent" following the blast. The paper says port officials were put under house arrest after an initial investigation suggested the cause of the explosion was thousands of tonnes of fertiliser stored for six years at the port.A photo of an army helicopter dropping water on the smouldering wreckage of Beirut's port fills much of the Daily Telegraph's front page.
I think the family need time to grieve and the media should let them do so instead of encouraging them to make rash campaigns.
Life for all killers and that means life. You kill? You die in prison yourself. Not difficult. Though it’s a shame that we then have to pay to house and feed you. Waiting for “those” comments 🙄
Only when every death in police custody or medical negligence case has those involved also handed life sentences. Stacking the law will have consequences that someone in their grief won't have thought through. I hope Politicians and the Judiciary don't take us down this road.
We don't want or need 'Andrew's Law'.Is a policeman's life worth more than a teacher's,an NHS worker's or a child's?No.This is a 'demand' by a grieving family and law shouldn't be make in the heat of emotion.
You have to be convicted & sentenced on the evidence not who the victim was. We can’t have multi level justice.
Murder is Death penalty. No quibbles. Proved beyond doubt is ta ta time. Ban human rights for killers. They know what they did... End of. And none of this tv, sport, phones, consoles per prison. Our pensioners get less. Your hard you stay in the hard.
Does this mean we’re entering a stage where some lives mean more. Surely should be life for all killers?
Life must mean LIFE - ie you die in jail . Simple. No hassle. You kill an emergency worker in the line of their duty - you a0 kill e.worker `7 b possibly kill the patient = 2 (or more) life = NO RELESE. PS Pretty Patel - hope you read thi1 PritiPatel
As sad and despicable as this crime was, no one's life is worth more than anothers. Sentences just be just and fitting. In this case, the sentences definitely were not.
Life for all killers.
