The Scottish Labour leader told the Record that a 'meaningful housing plan' would be 'front and centre' of his party's manifesto at the next Holyrood election.

The Scottish Labour leader spoke out after Fife became the fourth local authority to declare it could no longer meet demand for affordable accommodation as homelessness rises.

We revealed last week how the cost of a private rental property in Scotland has rocketed by 11 per cent last year. But SNP ministers insist they are still focused on its target of building 110,000 new affordable homes by 2032. "This is a government that expresses faux outrage at their political opponents and questions their ideas and values.

"And you're only going to build more homes if you demonstrate Scotland is open for business. And if you get rid of long, bureaucratic processes around planning, which is making developers go elsewhere. "We are investing £752 million in affordable housing this financial year, the majority of which will be for social rent.
