EXCLUSIVE: Council bosses believe they have been short-changed by the Scottish Government over the flagship policy to deliver free meals for poorer pupils.

The SNP Government rollout of free school meals for poorer children is in “disarray” over a £14m funding black hole row.

COSLA wrote that the “funding gap” has been raised with the Government: "At this stage officials have not yet been able to provide full assurance that this funding will be forthcoming, and whether this will be found in 2024/25 or 2025/26.” “Scottish Government officials are progressing work to get this arrangement in place but have not yet been able to provide assurance on when this will be completed.”

“They must stick to their word. Where there is the political will, there is a way, and the trade union movement will support them in delivering for Scotland’s pupils. We just need ministers to step up to the plate.”
