Alison Hammond admits people were nicer to her when she was ‘slimmer’: ‘People are obsessed with dieting - it’s the weirdest thing’

Alison Hammond is celebrating the launch of her new book, You’ve Got To Laugh, when we meet up with her in London. Sitting next to a supersize cardboard cut-out of the cover, Alison is beaming with excitement and pride.

“I wrote it with love and I wrote it from the heart. It’s true to what I believe so I’m not that nervous about it,” Alison tells us. “If you don’t like me, you don’t like me!” She took part in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! in 2010 and has been a guest presenter on This Morning since 2003. It’s called You’ve Got To Laugh, but there are sad moments in there as well. But you’ve still got to laugh even in those sad times because, ultimately, that’s life and we all go through those low moments.

I struggle being with someone because I’m so independent, that’s the problem. A man needs to be needed, don’t they? But I always think I can do everything for myself. It’s not, if I’m honest, but I might go on Tinder again soon. I tried to get on that celebrity dating app, Raya, but they wouldn’t accept me – I was fuming.

Yeah. One of my exes would be like, “I’m here as well, you know.” He didn’t like it. I need someone really secure who gets it and who’s OK with the fact that people know who I am.I really do. I wish I’d banged out two at the same time. As soon as I had Aidan I went straight on contraception because the doctors encourage you to.
