The Diamonds hope to be the first fourth-placed Championship side to earn promotion to the top-flight

Airdrie star Murray Aiken hopes his side can be history-makers by playing their way to the Premiership from a fourth-placed Championship finish.

Before that, the Lanarkshire side host Thistle at New Broomfield tonight , hoping to give themselves a lead to hold onto when they head to Maryhill. “It’s definitely set up for the Premiership side to stay up, but we know that over one game or two games against anyone we’re more than capable of pulling off an upset.“But we just need to take it one game at a time.”

He said: “It doesn’t matter the venue, home or away. I know from the start of the season when I was playing, we played them at home and popped it about, and they couldn’t really come close to us, so we know we’re capable of playing well against them.“The club has come quite far since last season.
