In my early school years in Accra, Ghana, we had to cut our hair down to almost a level one, and because of my keloid skin I never had pierced ears, so people said I looked like a boy. Looking back I like to think I looked more like Alek Wek, if I do say so myself.
I have been natural for about three years now. As I write this I have been procrastinating about taking out my current hairstyle for the past two weeks – I have had them in for just over two months now. The procrastination is very real, even though I know my natural hair is begging for a deep condition – dealing with my 4C type natural hair is the last thing I want to add to my to-do list.
In terms of caring for my natural hair, I am still on a journey to find the best products for it. I recently made my own hair moisturiser from natural raw shea butter purchased on my trip to Ghana last December, with a mix of aloe vera, Jamaican black castor oil, argan oil, olive oil, jojoba oil and tea tree oil, and my hair is really loving it. I even gave some to a friend who said it felt amazing and made their hair really soft.
Don't get me wrong (as twitter can misinterpret), all those women look really beautiful... but 'natural hair' it is not ;)
Hey vogue please can you make me famouse please please
