Severe delays are being reported

Long delays are being still being reported on Clifton Bridge in Nottingham after a lorry shed its load. A photo from the A52 southbound carriageway, which has three of four lanes closed, shows rubble in the middle of the road on Wednesday afternoon.

The rubble and spillage of hydraulic fluid has forced the partial closure which is causing widespread traffic disruption in the city, including in Derby Road, Queen's Drive and Ilkeston Road. Traffic monitoring site Inrix states: "Long delays and three lanes closed due to shed load of rubble and spillage of hydraulic fluid on A52 Clifton Bridge Southbound near A453 Clifton Lane .

"Congestion to Aspley Lane and on the outbound side of the A453 Queens Drive back to Waterway Street West. Surrounding Roads including Derby Road, Beeston Road and Abbey Street are also heavily congested.Nottinghamshire Police are at the scene. The force said in a post on X: "Our officers are currently at the scene after a lorry shed its load on the Clifton Flyover above Clifton Lane.

"The outbound carriageway towards the Nottingham Knight is currently closed. Please avoid the area while investigations take place and the scene is made safe."
