Amid the traffic woes faced by the riding public, Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday called on her fellow government officials not to use “wang-wang” or sirens to cut through Metro Manila’s horrendous traffic.

Robredo, who is the leader of the opposition, said the removal of blarings sirens should be a way for officials to empathize with the daily struggles of Filipinos who are stuck in vehicular traffic.

The Vice President described the “wang-wang” mentality by top officials on the road as an “insult” to the people. Robredo was reacting to Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo’s almost four-hour commute from his home in Marikina City to Malacañang on Friday to prove his point there is no transportation crisis.

In her radio show, Robredo also encouraged government officials to show compassion to ordinary Filipinos like the commuters when they come up with traffic solutions.
