PNP elite forces sent to Maguindanao after roadside blast kills Marine commando, injures 4 others to help hunt down persons involved in roadside bombing

The Philippine National Police sent on Saturday, Sept. 19, its elite forces to Maguindanao to help the local security forces hunt down those responsible for the roadside bombing that left a member of the Philippine Marine Corps dead and four others wounded.

PNP chief Gen. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan said he also ordered all local police forces in Maguindanao to initiate security protocols to contain the movement of those responsible, including checkpoints and chokepoints, and intensified intelligence-gathering. Among those sent were members of the Provincial Headquarters, Maguindanao Police Provincial Office, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company , 404th Special Action Company and Light Armor Unit of the PNP-SAF.

The roadside bombing occurred at around 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, near the Integrated Provincial Health Office in the capital town of Shariff Aguak in Maguindanao. Reports revealed that the Philippine Marines personnel on board a troop carrier were coming from a military operation against elements of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters in Barangay Salman when the incident happened.Cascolan said police investigators are sifting through debris around the site of the explosion of the suspected Improvised Explosive Device.
