The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor – Field Operations Division for Luzon suggested the establishment of a Local Inter-Agency Committee in Candelaria, Quezon to ensure the land tenure security of residents in the area.
PCUP Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer Undersecretary Alvin S. Feliciano said that the organization’s participation in such activity aims to ensure the rights of urban poor residents in terms of land tenure security. “Ang pakikibahaging ito ng Komisyon sa naturang aktibidad ay naglalayong matiyak ang karapatan ng mga maralitang tagalungsod ukol sa usapin ng paninirahan at security of land tenure ,” said Feliciano.
The suggestion came after the rise of concerns regarding illegal residency in Candelaria, Quezon. Among these concerns were the several years without payment of some housing beneficiaries and the disorganized Home Owners Association in their community. Despite this, occupants said that they are willing to pay their responsibility to secure their residence.
As a result, PCUP proposed to conduct an inventory of the current residents which will be compared to the original Social Housing Financial Corporation list. The organization also stressed the importance of LIAC development in order to prevent concerns like this in the future.
