The University of the Philippines-College of Home Economics (UP-CHE) is encouraging the public to use home-made face masks instead of surgical masks.

In a Facebook post, the UP-CHE said: “Save the medical-grade masks to our front-liners. Let’s make our own home-made face masks!“Complete set of tutorials : https://bit.ly/3e9BIycExperts have long been espousing the use of washable face masks for those who are not directly exposed to coronavirus disease 2019 patients.

Since the onset of the battle against the pandemic there has been a high demand for surgical masks, as many people believe that it will protect them from the virus. Aside from the surgical masks though, health experts also recommend the use of other personal protective equipment, most especially a face shield.
