— Iloilo has joined several provinces in the Visayas to ban shipment of pigs and pork meat from Luzon as a preventive measure against African swine fever .
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. said the temporary ban also covers processed pork products coming from other countries that have positive ASF cases. Defensor emphasized that only pork-based products with corresponding documents and permits issued by the Bureau of Animal Industry will be allowed entry. There is also stronger monitoring at seaports of Dumangas and Estancia towns that service roll-on, roll-off vessels.Defensor assured there is enough supply of pork meat in the 42 towns and component city of Passi.
Citing data from the Department of Agriculture’s Western Visayas office, Defensor said Iloilo get its pork supply from Negros Occidental, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro City.Related Posts
