A FILIPINO oncology nurse in the United States died from injuries sustained after a mugger slammed into her and knocked her down in Times Square, New York.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Sunday, October 10, 2021, asked Consul General Elmer Cato in New York to help the family of Maria Luningning Ambrocio.“We grieve with the family of our kababayan Maria Ambrocio, a health frontline, who died from her injuries after she was knocked down a homeless man near the Philippine Consulate General in New York on Friday . We call on authorities to do what is necessary to make the streets safer,” Cato said in a social media post.
A report by the New York Post said Ambrocio, 58, was walking with friends through Times Square at around 1:30 p.m. Friday when the mugger slammed into her. The mugger, Jermaine Foster, had barged into an apartment, broke things in the apartment while looking for money and then “bizarrely sat on the couch without saying a word.” He was fleeing from the police when he slammed into Ambrocio.The report quoted Ambrocio’s colleague Emilia Cruz, 70, who said she heard a loud thump and looked down to see Ambrocio, who was already unconscious and frothing in the mouth.
Ambrocio was rushed to a hospital with head trauma. Her brother Calixto informed the New York Post Saturday evening that Ambrocio had died.
